Opening that bottle: 2017 Fontodi Flaccianello

by David M. Bueker » Thu Feb 15, 2024 8:58 pm

  • 2017 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT - Italy, Tuscany, Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT (2/15/2024)
Early, early, early! Dark fruit, more oak than I was expecting but not out of balance. Strong tannin and a deep, dark finish that hangs on the palate like a bat at midnight. Wait at least ten years before opening another one…maybe 20. I hope I live long enough to enjoy it at its apogee.

I don't think I've ever had a fully ready to drink high end Fontodi - Sorbo too seems to need a LOT of time.

I had the '97 Flaccianello several years ago (say 2017), and it was definitely ready.
