WTN: A Rkatsiteli Orange & A Carlisle...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Feb 20, 2024 1:19 pm

Tried these two wines last night for DinDin:
1. NineOaks Rkatsiteli Kakheti Region/Georgia (13.5%; 28 days skin-contact in Underground Qvevri; www.NineOaksEstate.com; Uva Imprts/Atlanta) Nine Oaks Estate/Kvareli/Georgia 2020: Deep gold/brown/burnished bronze color; very strong earthy/dusty bit plastic/plasticizer/vinyl trash can fairly strong phenolic/ViniMacerati/resiny lightly floral/Rkat/geraniums/pungent bit complex/interesting nose; bit soft slightly off-dry rather metallic/tangy rather resiny/VM/phenolic fairly austere/tannic/savory flavor w/ rather tannic/austere flavor; long finish that follows flavor; a pretty classic austere/tannic/austere VM w/ a paucity of fruit; pretty tannic/austere on palate; needs 4-8 yrs of age to become good drinking. $28.50 (KK)

2. Carlisle Zin LigenfelderVnyd/RRV/ (15.1%; + AlicanteBouschet; 100 cs) SantaRosa 2008: Med.dark color w/ some bricking; some cedary/pencilly/oldZin fairly strong blackberry/Zin/spicy bit dustt/OV slight RRV peppery light pencilly/toasty/oak fairly complex attractive nose; bit soft some dusty/OV/RRV peppery bit cedary/pencilly/oldZin some blackberry/Zin/spicy bit hot/alcoholic bit toasty/oak fairly complex flavor w/ light gentle tannins; very long/lingering finish that mirrors flavor; not yet drying out but showing some of the cedary/oldZin character; tannins are fully resolved; probably a bit beyond its peak but still a delicious mature Zin w/ plenty of fruit still.

Lingenfelder Vineyard?

Now I need to dig up a bottle of Lingenflder, a German producer. Still have a couple somewhere!

Yup... Ligenfelder. Mike did use that Vnyd more than once or twice. I knew the name sounded familiar.
