WTN: Two Old Turley Zins....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Feb 22, 2024 1:57 pm

We tasted ystrday at Pig+Fig two old Turley Zins:
1. Turley Zin DogtownVnyd/Lodi (15.3%) 1997: Dark color w/ some browning; bit alcoholic strong earthy/mushroomy/Lodi Zin slight musty/aged funk that goes slight cedary/pencilly some complex classic Lodi nose; bit soft some Lodi/mushroomy/Zin some toasty/oak rather alcoholic bit cedary/pencilly/oldZin flavor w/ light drying tannins; long finish that mimics flavor; has faded quite a bit but still offers up some interesting pleasure and not totally shot; pretty good shape for a 26 yr old Lodi Zin.

2. Turley Zin Moore "Earthquake" Vnyd/NapaVlly (16.8%) St.Helena 1997: Dark color w/ some browning; fairly alcoholic strong spicy/Zin/blackberry/ripe/boysenberry slight cedary/pencilly/oldZin bit toasty/oak some complex satill loads of Zin fruit rather attractive nose; bit soft fairly alcoholic bit fumey strong blackberry/spicy Zin bit dusty/OV some toasty/Fr.oak fairly smooth rather smooth complex flavor w/ light smooth tannins; very long/lingering smooth finish that follows flavor; starting to dry out a bit on the palate but still plenty of spicy Zin fruit and in remarkably good shape for 26 yrs age. $69.00

More turdlycrick from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. These two Zins were made in the early tenure at Turley by Ehren Jordan as he wrenched away from the Helen Turley style of Zin. I've had a few recent 10 yr old Turleys that were in pretty shakey shape, so I was expecting these to be totally shot. They were not, but in remarkably good shape for 26 yrs old.
