WTN: Two New Massican Collaborations '22...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Mar 10, 2024 6:01 pm

Tried these two w/ Susan this weekend:
1. Massican Mitja Sirk Dd'OC: Collio Bianco Collaboration Series (14%) Cormons/Friuli 2022: Light gold color; some floral/carnations/Friuliano lightly spicy/chalky slight earthy pretty classic Friulano light weight nose; fairly tart/tangy floral/Friuliano/carnations/perfumed talc slight stony/chalky lightweight gentle flavor; med.long light finish that follows flavor; a rather pretty/lightweight floral white that speaks of Friuliano. $35.00

2. Massican LittleFrancis Australian WW (11.5%; 40% Vermentino/29% PinotGrigio/29% Friuliano) Erin Pooley/LittleFrancesWines/Beechworth/Victoria; Imprtd by Massican/Calistoga 2022: Pale gold color; lovely very fragrant Verm/gardenias/slight carnations/marigolds/floral light chalky/stony/mineral slight perfumed talc quite perfumed nose; lightly tart slight metallic quite floral/Verm/gardenias bit rich/textured very slight stony/perfumed talc lovely flavor; very long floral/Verm finish that mimics flavor; best Vermentino from Oz that I can recall; the richness & texture only hints of Oz but the style definitely speaks of Massican; not as lean & wirey & taut as most of Dan's whites usually are but definitely in Dan's style. $35.00

More petrafuel from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Dan Petroski/Massican has embarked on a Collaboration effort w/ several winemaker friends. He solicits them to make a wine in what he thinks is the Massican style. These two whites are his second round of that Collaboration.
The Sirk doesn't identify the grape(s) used, but it had a light/delicate character that suggested Friulano. A pretty wine, but just that. It may put on some weight w/ age.
I really liked the LittleFrancis as a lovely expression of Vermentino. Not as intensely floral as many from Calif are. Also quite a lovely white.
