WTN: Two Drew Syrahs...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Mar 19, 2024 1:59 pm

We had these two Syrahs at our tasting last week at Pig+Fig:
1. Drew Syrah PerliVnyd/MendoRidge (13.9%) 2016: Dark color w/ no bricking; strong blackberry/Syrah some c-c/black pepper/spicy light pencilly oak some complex lovely nose; fairly tart/tangy light pencilly/oak some black pepper/c-c Syrah strong blackberry/spicy some complex flavor w/ light tangy tannins; very long/lingering bit tangy finish that mimics flavor; showing some evolution but a lovely Syrah that can still go a few yrs yet and maybe even 10. $40.00

2. Drew Syrah ValentiRanch MendoRidge (13%; cofrmtd w/ Viognier; 67% Chace/33% Clone 1; Drk: 2024-2038: JD) 2021: Very dark color/near black; strong Syrah/blackberry/blueberry less complex more pure Syrah lovely nose; bit softer rich/lush strong blackberry/blueberry/Syrah light toasty/oak slight earthy not as complex lots of primary/Syrah fruit lovely flavor w/ modest chewey tannins; very long primary Syrah finish w/ modest chewey tannins; still needs 4-8 yrs to show some development; loads of primary spicy Syrah fruit; a lovely expression of Syrah not showing that much c-c character. $55.00/$46.75

More likkerspurt from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Jason & Molly take Syrah from the Perli & Valenti vnyds on the South edge of the Mendo Ridge. They usually show a lot of cold-climate peppery character and are consistently quite good. Taste like a Syrah made by a Pinot producer & show more restraint & elegance than most.
