We drink a lot of Beaujolais as well as Gamay from Touraine. I also look out for Gamay from the Roanne area in the upper Loire valley; Domaine Pothiers in particular. We are lucky in finding Beaujolais crus at friendly prices (<€10) from lesser known estates during the Foires aux Vins with guidance from RVF. They provide a lot of enjoyment for drinking young as they pair well with most meat, fish and vegetarian dishes unless they are quite spicy and sweet. However, they are no better than the very good generic Beaujolais cuvées at similar or slightly higher prices from the likes of Chermette and Brun.
2022 Domaine De La Chapelle-Bizot Chiroubles - France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Chiroubles (08/05/2024)
Nearly 8 months since the previous bottle there has been little change. The wine is moreish with fresh savoury plum veering to prune infused fruit, fresh acidity and decent grip without any asperity. Good.
