- 2015 Cowan Cellars Syrah - USA, California, Sonoma County, Bennett Valley (10/3/2024)
Been a long time since I last opened one of these. It's coming along nicely, and has turned into a classically styled Syrah. Lots of red meat and leather supplements dark fruit. There's still a notable tannic spine, and the finish picks up elements of smoked meat, though falling short of bacon fat. Blind I would have a hard time pegging this as a California-based Syrah, though calling the variety would not be difficult.
p.s. I opened this as Jim Cowan has a home in the western hills of North Carolina. He and Diane (and their house) are fine, and making their way to their place in Florida.

I owned that wine once upon a time. I'm impressed to learn that it's turning out so classic, as I would not have expected that based on my bottles. Glad Jim's okay.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
