Love the title. But I don't especially like peaches in my chardonnay, I'm having a hard time picturing this.

The peach was surprising. Not usually a feature of that wine. Maybe a riper vintage. I’m not sure.

Peach is something I associate with grapes like marsanne and godello, not chardonnay. But the thickest zinfandel I've ever had in my life came from Haynes, so maybe that's it.

Zin? That sounds like Hayne Vineyard, rather than Haynes.

Haynes is a Syrah, Pinot, Chard site.

Hayne has Zin and Petite Sirah.

Ah...merci! I've never grokked that there are two similarly-named.

It confused the heck out of me for a while.

  • 2021 Enfield Wine Co. Chardonnay Old Vines Haynes Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley, Coombsville (8/7/2025)
This really is a look at old vine Chardonnay, unadorned. Refreshing, zesty mouthfeel, and lots of fresh tree fruit tones make this easy to drink. When I force myself to linger (but I want that next sip, I really want it!) I get more of a sense of the underlying acidic structure, and how solid the base of this wine really is. Sad that John can't make this anymore, but glad to have had it.

I associate white peach flavors with Riesling, along with citrus-y flavors and of course the frequently encountered tetrahydronaphthalene.... err... "petrol."

I have often found white peach notes in Chardonnay. Of course my “white peach” may be your “jonagold apple.”
