2016 Massolino Dolcetto d'Alba - I used to drink quite a bit of Dolcetto as I found it akin to Beaujolais - a lighter bodied wine with good fruit. But then, perhaps due to Parkerization, some producers started making a heavier more 'serious' version and I found that I didn't enjoy that as much and pretty much stopped buying it.

This one was definitely of the more recent style, being richer and darker than it would have been in older vintages, and it had a pumped up smoky nose of fruit riper than was the traditional practice. Not a bad wine, but not a classic Dolcetto either. I wonder if there are any makers of the more traditional style left?

Luigi Einaudi still makes a tradtional Dolcetto--I think. It's the best one I've had at any rate and it wasn't long ago. There's a lot of it being grown in WA now, not that those would interest you, though I remember one by a winery on the Gorge called Memmaloose that I bought six of for that resemblance to good Beaujolais you mention.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
