- 2005 Nicolas Potel Volnay Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay (1/24/2025)
Bought on release and well stored, this was the epitome of perfectly correct but utterly boring. Nothing stood out on the nose or the palate, but there were no obvious issues to explain the failure of the wine to express itself in any way. It’s a cat that hears you but doesn’t care.

I've had some very good Potel wines, but the correct but who cares/yawn category is quite common. Don't know the source on Volnay VV.

Interesting. It was actually Maureen Nelson who prodded me to buy this. I have one more bottle. Maybe it will be better.

I assume this wasn't the first bottle you tried? Was it always correct but boring?
Like Dale, it doesn't seem to shocking for N Potel, although I was buying the wines around this time (perhaps also encouraged by Maureen) and enjoying them for the screaming value.

I opened the first bottle of my three quite a while ago, but wrote no note. That likely means it was unremarkable well.

It sounds like Douglas Adams came up with the perfect review for this wine: mostly harmless. Aka Triple Shemp in the Three Stooges system.

That is interesting. This was made a couple years after the sale of the domaine and M. Potel exiting.

Not a domaine. He did sell in 2004 I think, but still made the wines for a few years.
Due to his dad, he sometimes had tremendous sources for his negoce bottlings.
I've enjoyed the few Roche de Bellene wines I've had,

Same here. Good point about his staying on for a couple of years. I'd forgotten about that.
