Friday we were having salmon burgers in pita pockets , I thought “I like burgers with Gamay, I like salmon with Gamay” so I opened the 2014 Chermette “Cuvee Traditionnelle” Beaujolais VV. Lovely wine, crunchy red berry fruit with bright floral notes. Very tasty. But not a great match- the salmon burgers were a bit dilly and topped with a spicy cucumber/onion/arugula mixture, I think I would be have been better off with a rose or sparkler. But not the wine’s fault. B+
Saturday halibut roasted with lemon and olives, sweet potatoes, bok choy, I opened the 2018
La Valentina Pecorino (Colline Pescaresi). This was more Peachorino than Pecorino. Ripe pit fruits, a sweet edge, low to moderate acids. I really prefer the Tiberio (or the Pepe if price no object) but unsure how much producer and how much warm vintage. B-/C+
Pork chops in a cilantro/jalapeno marinate, Sichuan blistered beans, rice with furikake
2023 Boulay Sibylle Sancerre Rose
Muscular rose, strawberry and watermelon with citrus zest, full mouthfeel, nice herby finish. B+/B
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
