WTN: Peay master

by David M. Bueker » Sat Apr 19, 2025 9:29 pm

  • 2020 Peay Vineyards Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley (4/19/2025)
Two years ago I said that I am not normally an Anderson Valley Pinot Noir fan, but this wine was excellent. Last night the same conclusion applied, with some extra complexity from the additional time in bottle. There was a hint of earthiness to accompany the fruit, which made the wine all the more interesting. I wish I had come to Peay Vineyards wines earlier in my journey, as I would have bought a whole lot more of them.

David; I'm only guessing, but I'd be willing to bet that, over the years (their first vintage was '01) the landscape for what they hoped to do gradually shifted to accommodate the climatic and site variations that were being affected by our ongoing climate change issues, and that their adaptations have really begun to come into focus. The Peay are som smart fellows, and their winemaker-in-chief ain't no slouch. They're gettin' it going!
