1997 Kenwood Zinfandel Jack London Vineyard - after the discovery of some Kenwood over a decade older, that had about lost any attraction it once had (I rate wine at three levels - good, so-so and stew pot material and the 85 was sliding into the last category) I figured I'd better sample some later Kenwood.

This was bottled in the later bottles where they etched (sandblasted?) a 'label' including a wolf's head directly onto the glass. It showed as fully mature but with some fruit detectable and a long smooth finish. Definitely not a stew pot wine, but it was a single bottle anyway.

While rooting around for that I came across some Sterling and Beringer and Caymus and Flora Springs all of mature age so will plan on accompanying the next few Friday evening steaks with a line up of those.

Depending on the specific Beringer those could be really good.

So could the Sterlings. Especially from the Bill Dyer years.

I have the 91,92, 93, 94 and 99 Beringer Cab Sauv Private reserve, and the 90 Sterling Reserve and 92 Diamond Mt, ranch - should perhaps arrange a meal with these wines and see how they are doing.

Well the ‘93 Beringer was great a few months ago.
