- 2000 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (4/27/2025)
From a bottle cellared since release, this needed about 90 minutes in the decanter before it opened the doors of the monolith. After that it was full of stars. Stately, but generous, it initially sported an ascot rather than a tie. Once the jackets came off the dark fruit came out, and circled the leather chairs and cigar boxes in a tightly controlled orbit. The finish was where the wine truly shone, as the tannins caused the orbits to converge, and the final taste was intensely focused. The longer the wine sat in the decanter the better it became, so have confidence in holding for your children’s children’s children.
