1996 Domenico Clerico Langhe Arte – this Piemontese wine, is made from Nebbiolo 90% + Barbera 10%, although the percentages may vary a bit from year to year. It gets 12 months of French oak after being blended and is one of the first Super-Piemontese wines to be made – 1981 was the first vintage. Still fairly dark in colour and showing only medium oak rather than the too high (French) oak level I noted when I tasted it on first release, and it still has very good fruit levels and a lengthy finish. Glad I made the right decision when I decided to cellar it for a fairly long time before opening. If you have it, it is time to try one.
