WTN: Finally, a good GaMay

by Jenise » Wed May 07, 2025 7:18 pm

Coming out of the rough patch of unpleasant 18's, this:

2019 Yohan Lardy Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes de 1903 Gamay
Purple-black color with robust strawberry and blackberry fruit, traditional winemaking (not CM) evident, powdery tannins, lingering finish. Has lots of time--not my bottle, but would be pleased to own this.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Vintage? This is also 2018? Sounds great. But I believe Lardy uses semi-carbonic maceration.

No, '19, I just edited it in. But hmm...re maceration--the person who brought it said it was otherwise. Will have to look into it!

Aha, '19 often better than '18 these days.

The Lardy website pretty clear that it's whole cluster fermentation (https://www.yohan-lardy.com/) and lots of other sites go further to specify carbonic or semi-carbonic, depending on the bottling. But the internet is a tricky place, who knows...

Funny - I haven't come across any of Yohan's wines in my area, though I have enjoyed a few of his father, Lucien - the Moulin-à-Vent Les Thorins is a reliable wine.
