1988 Taltarni Cabernet Sauvignon - came across this in the cellar and decided it was time to try a bottle. Back when this was made, the winemaking was done by Dominique Portet, whose family has been active for nine generations and all over the globe. Today they are involved with wineries in France, South Africa, California (Clos du Val) etc. This cabernet has a definitely French resemblance - still fairly dark with a bit of bricking at the edges, a delightful nose of berries, spice and a bit of cigar box/cedar, and olive develop with time. Medium weight and zero hints that it is Australian. Smooth and long on palate. Very good showing at age 37 - a class act!

Taltarni was one of my earliest Australian loves, maybe even the very earliest, in the early 90's. It's been a long time since I've had one but I guarantee you, I knew the '88 when it was a baby. Not surprised that this survived.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
