- 2019 Goodfellow Family Cellars Chardonnay Richard's Cuvee Whistling Ridge Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge (5/12/2025)
Composite over several nights. This initially had too much reduction for my taste, so after a small pour I put it aside for a while. A couple of hours later I used two glasses to pour some back and forth, which largely resolved the reduction, and allowed the fruit and saline minerality to emerge. Still, on the first night it was pretty tight.
A generous pour on night two showed more depth on the palate, including a slight creamy edge that was wholly unexpected but quite appealing.
For reasons of food pairing, night three was skipped.
I finished the bottle tonight with a small pour that was reduction free, fruit forward (shocking with that much time open), and deeper on the mid-palate than at any earlier point.
In summary I think this wine needs a lot more cellar time.
