Haddock and chickpeas in a tomato/chipotle broth
2020 Pepiere Clisson Muscadet
Lemon, grapefruit, wet rocks and oyster shell. Plenty of richness but no shortage of acidity. Long lovely finish, B++

Pork, snap pea and asparagus stirfry
2012 Dr. H. Thanisch (Erben Thanisch) Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Spatlese
7.5% abv, lively and lovely with firm acids, sprightly body, a touch of matchstick that blows off quickly. Citrus blossom, apple, peach pie, with lime zest on minerally finish, B+/A-

Waygu ribeye, potatoes, spinach, and zucchini
2007 Bachelet Grevrey=Chambertin VV
I had intended to blind the wine geeks with this on Memorial Day, but never opened.
In a really nice place with resolved tannin, bright and integrated acids, juicy black cherry fruit with coffee and earth. Good earthy finish. B+/A-

2019 Hureau “Lisagathe” Saumur-Champigny
I think there is a seriously good wine underneath here, but it’s pretty tightly shut. Big but ripe tannins, good acids, you get a hint of the powerful cassis fruit, some cigar wrapper and smoke, but really its in hiding. Not a ton of enjoyment today, but think I’ll grab a couple to put away. B- for tonight’s pleasure, lots of potential.

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Sounds good, and the note could also apply to the 2020 Pépière Monnières St Fiacre that I had earlier in the week.

Glad that Thanisch worked out well. That was just about the point the estate was starting to turn the corner.

I have had a few Thanisch wines before, but never a real sense of the producer, and not enough to know the ups and downs. Sounds like a long down period?
