  • 2014 Domaine Billaud-Simon Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (6/4/2025)
A true “holy sh**” wine, this was about as classic as modern Chablis can get. Lemon zest, minerals for days, and a brisk, mouthwatering finish, I couldn’t stop going back to it. It’s got years to go, but I want to drink my last bottle tomorrow. I won’t, but it’s that good right now.

I wonder how many producers get grapes from the Montée de Tonnerre vineyard - there seem to be quite a few although I was unable to come up with a list on line. I have some 2018 Caves Duplessis and when I looked it up, that wine seems to have doubled in cost since release! Is there a general boom in Chablis?

There is a general scarcity in Chablis. Numerous small crops in recent years due to frost and hail have made the wines harder to get and more expensive.
