WTN: Edith gets whacked

by Jenise » Sun Jun 08, 2025 10:31 am

So I went over to share wines with friends on Friday afternoon, and I brought along this wine:

2020 Cayuse Grenache Edith Rosé Armada Vineyard Walla Walla Valley
Very different, and less exciting for my tastes, than a bottle exactly one year ago. Rich vs. refreshing, with big body and a finish I found a little cloying. When that was drained they offered me the choice of a La Vielle Ferme rose or this wine (no contest):

2023 Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough NZ
Classic--as vintages go, this is the sharper, more focussed (probably cooler) type of vintage I love. Dusty on the nose and brightly acidic on the finish with notes of gooseberry, grass, white grapefruit and key lime in between. All this is why Greywacke remains one of my favorite SB producers.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Not sure why, but Grenache Rosé rarely thrills me. Much more a Mourvèdre or Syrah fan.

Now that you mention it, grenache rose rarely wows me too. The recents I've had from WA state are just not dry enough. Most syrah roses have also been guilty of that. Mourvedres, yes. Had a '17 Domaine Tempier last weekend that was outstanding. But generalizing on grape: cinsault, cab franc and pinot noir are my usual favorites.
