WTN: Two Whites...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Jul 10, 2025 12:14 pm

Tried these two Whites over the last few days:
1. Ryme RibollaGiallo VareVnyd/NapaVlly (13.6%; www.RymeCellars.com) Healdsburg 2015: Deep golden/slightly brown color; some phenolic/skin-contact/resinous bit honeyed/honey graams some RG/floral/white pepper slight orangey rather complex nose; lightly tart some skin-contact/phenolic fairly strong RG/white pepper/floral/carnations rather graham crackers/honey grahams very bit saline/austere bit smooth slight honeyed fairly complex flavor; long honey grahams/resinous finish that mimics flavor; still plenty of phenolic/resinous character but starting to show some evolution & smoothing out; try again in 5 yrs. $48.00

2. LaColombera Timorasso IMontino Dd'OC: Colli Tortonesi (14.00%; GiulianoImprts/Boulder) LaColombera/ *Pier Carlo Semino*/Tortona/Piedmonte 2018: Light gold color; very perfumed/fragrant floral/Viog-like/gardenias light stony/mineral some complex beautiful nose; bit soft very rich/lush intense floral/Timo/Viog-like/gardenias slight metallic some mineral/stony fairly savory some complex slight pungent lovely flavor; very long/lingering lush/rich strong floral finish that follows flavor; a beautiful expression o Piemonte Timo w/ loads of floral/Viog-like character. $31.00

More timmoburst from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I was quite impressed by the Ryme RG. The skin-contact/resinous character is starting to subside somewhat & the RG fruit come to the forefront. I see no reason it won't continue to improve over the next 5-10 yrs.
The Colombera is about as fine a Piemonte Timo that I can recall. Better than most of the Walter Massa's I have had. Timo makes one of the greatest white wines of the Piemonte. The IlMontino is their vnyd-designate Timo. They make a generic one that is also quite good.
