- 2016 Once & Future Wine Zinfandel Oakley Road Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Contra Costa County (7/14/2025)
I bought two bottles of this wine on release, and drank one soon after delivery. Seven years later the wine still feels quite young, as I expected. The fruit is still very deep and rich, and held in balance by fresh acidity. Due to the depth of fruit the tannins are still mostly hidden, but they are there on the finish. Overall this wine tastes, smells, and feels like Contra Costa Zinfandel. It also feels like it will hold on for a very long time, only ever gradually shedding its fruit. Shades of those old Ravenswood appellation Zins that keeps on going for decades.
