I remember the name Schuetz Oles from wine country trips in the 1990s or early 2000s, but I don't know anything about them, and can't tell you if I ever visited, or just noticed the unusual name on a sign. I found an entry via Google Books in Larry Walker's 2005
Wines of the Napa Valley that says "Founded in 1991 by winemaker Rick Schuetz and viticulturalist Lore Oles, this small winery specializes in ripe and simply delicious Zinfandel. There is also a bit of Petite Sirah to try." Says they had 24ha of vineyards and gives a PO box in St. Helena as the address. Jay McInerney's
Bacchus and Me says, of a ZAP tasting, "at the booth for Schuetz Oles zinfandel, unregenerate hippie winemaker Rick Schuetz identifies his main influences as Thelonious Monk, Jimi Hendrix, and Julia Child." Sounds pretty good to me!
How's that for some spittleflorp, Tom?
