1986 Monticello Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon - an orphan bottle in my cellar that I had passed by but came across in my attempts to finish up odds and sods hiding there. The wine was showing orange edges, but the nose was correct and showed red currant with hints of cocoa. Clean slightly acidic finish. Pretty good showing all things considered. I typically decant and then allow at least a half hour before tasting on these older wines as many seem to gather body and complexity with a bit of oxygen. The arc can be short or quite long, so best not to open hours ahead.

I had the '96 Monticello Corley recently, fairly similar showing, solid if a bit stolid. Good showing considering what these probably cost 35 years ago!

I have a few others that I must get into rather than cellaring them any longer - 86 Cuvaison, several Kenwoods, Villa Mt. Eden, etc.
