Monday no wine with grilled spatchcocked chicken with a spicy rub, squash blossoms stuffed with citrus accented ricotta, and broccoli

Tuesday was miso black cod, rice, and bok choy
2002 Willi Schaefer Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett
Very soft, tropical fruits and a little apricot, sweet meringue-y finish. Plenty of life left at 20+ years, but needs more acid to be in my Kabinett wheelhouse. Before the days I learn just buy the Domprobst. B-

Wednesday we met friends at the park concert, cool for August, not much time to cook so we had Popeyes fried chicken, pheasant pate, cheeses, watermelon, and a fennel/cabbage/radish slaw.
NV Bruno Paillard Blanc de Blancs (Sept 2015 disgorgement)
Always a little nervous about wines from secondary market in clear bottles, but this was fine and a great fried chicken counterpart. This is likely 2010 base (but could be 2011). Citrus and green apple, crisp, a little brioche on finish, chalky notes as well, on the lighter/brighter side/ B+/B.

2022 Guion Bourgueil Rose
Still showing well, light crunchy red fruit, lime zest, perky. B

2023 Domaine des Cassagnoles (Cotes de Gascogne)
Peach, Pledge, and a musty note, I’d call corked but this is screwcapped so maybe some kind of off reductive note. Not pleasant. C-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

The Wehlener Sonnenuhr is another one of those celebrated sites that's now a bit too warm at times.
