WTN: Too darned hot - Orofino Riesling & a friend

by Jenise » Thu Aug 14, 2025 12:50 pm

Served this last night with veal schnitzels on buttered herb spatzle:

2022 Orofino Vineyards Riesling Old Vines Home Vineyard Similkameen Valley B.C.
Swoonworthy nose and palate with exceptional complexity and body. A wine that has me going "If only Bueker were here."

2022 Rémi Larroque Mary Taylor Gaillacoise
The tannins and full body on this unique, unfiltered 100% Mauzac (yeah, that's a grape) wine drink more like a very dry apple cider than grape-based wine. I do like it, but it's not exactly what one of my English friends would call "more-ish".
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Trying to figure out exactly where the Riesling comes from. Canada?

Yes, B.C. (just edited my post to include that detail). But not the Okanagan Valley, a much lusher one 40-60 miles west of it. There are some excellent wineries there and this is my favorite.

The Similkameen Valley to be exact. The Orofino Old Vines Riesling is a must buy every year for me. Amazing QPR as well.

Indeed - John first put me onto them - they are not a major well known producer except among riesling fanatics. I find that I have four of this wine - a bottle will be coming out of the cellar very soon!
