Had these last night in our Pig+Fig tasting:
1. Clape Cornas AC: Cornas (11%-14%; MeBalP; KermitLynch/Berkeley 1985 Med.light color w/ some bricking; some cedary/pencilly/oldRed rather smokey/roasted/earthy fully mature Rhone Syrah quite complex lovely nose; rather tart/metallic fairly cedary/pencilly smokey/roasted/mature Rhone Syrah pencilly complex flavor w/ modest astringent/drying tannins; starting to dry out quite a bit but no oxidation; rather drying/astringent but not at all dead.
Retried this about 6 hrs later after it had been opened. It had become much more perfumed, classic mature Rhone Syrah much smoother/gentle more complex on the palate; quite a lovely graceful fully mature Rhone Syrah. $nc (BSvSG)

2. Ch.Cos d'Estournel (13%) 1984: Dark bit cloudy color w/ slight bricking; rather cedary/pencilly/smokey/mature Bdx some herbal/black-curranty slight earthy rather complex lovely mature BD nose; soft gentle/round/smooth light blackcurranty/Cab/herbal rather cedary/fully graceful/elegant/fully mature Bdx flavor w/ light gentle tannins; very long/lingering finish that mimics flavor w/ light smooth tannins; a lovely fully-mature example of a Red Bdx; probably not going to get any better and in a lovely place right now. $40.00

3. Louis Jadot Clos de Malta Santenay (13%) 1996: Med.color w/ some bricking; slightly musty that leaves fully mature/RedBurg/smokey/pencilly rather cedar/smokey quite complex lovely nose; lightly tart fully mature RedBurg bit smokey/toasty/oak smooth/gentle complex PN flavor w/ light gentle tannins; very long/lingering finish that follows flavor; a pretty complex/gentle/smooth example of RedBurg; seems to be faded somewhat & lacks intensity but a lovely fully-mature RedBurg. $20.00
______________
4. AndrewMurray Syrah SantaBarbaraCnty (13.5%; EG) 1994: Fairly dark color w/ light brickig; strong smokey/peppery/SBC Syrah fairly toasty/Fr.oak rather complex very attractive nose; bit soft slight metallic/dried-out some peppery/spicy/mature SBC Syrah some toasty/oak complex flavor w/ light astringent/bitey tannins; lots of mature SBC Syrah nose but drying out/somewhat astringent tannins on the palate; a lovely example of a fully mature SBC Syrah but not likely to improve any more; only going to become more dried out and head downhill. $nc (BSvSG)

More trumprfart from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Some really good examples of fully mature wines. I guess I prefer a bit more youthfullness in my wines w/ a little more life to them. The Clape Cornas was my easy favorite of these 4 wines.

Impressed the Cos held on. ‘84 was a pretty bad vintage.

Yeah....so was I surprised that it held up so well, David.

Clape was my favorite Cornas producer in the '80s. Then the Northern Rhone got Parkerized and I couldn't find his, or any other Cornas, anywhere. Sigh.
I tend to buy wines for cellaring in 1/2-case lots. When I asked my wine merchant for six bottles of Cornas he said, "You don't want a case of the Clape?"

Table & Vine carried Clape all through the ‘90s and up to 2011, which was the last time I looked for it/bought it.

Big Cornas fan here - have something like 7 or 8 mixed cases of Clape, Voges, Colombo, Paris etc. Moved a few of them into my upcoming drinking section as a result of your post!
