WTN: Boulay, Chevillon, Arnot-Roberts

Once again the Wednesday park concert was rained out, but I still had my lobster salad (tarragon and citrus) and caprese.
2024 Boulay Chavignol Sancerre
Maybe a bit rounder than some vintages, but there’s still a good acid backbone and a wet rocks finish. Apple., lemongrass, and lemon zest, very food friendly. B+

Thursday was tTeriyaki salmon, soba, grilled leeks with mustard sauce, spinach
2004 Chevillon Chaignots Nuits St George 1er
OK, green meanies were rampant in this when young, now the only green notes are more traditionally herby and in background. But this wine lacks energy and verve, and seems to be on its last legs, with noticeable bricking, not what I’d expect from a Chevillon 1er at 21. C+/B-

Mussels and chorizo, with corn and an heirloom tomato/feta salad.
2024 Arnot Roberts Rose
This used to be all Touriga Nacional, but now 85%TN and 15% Trincadeira ( I wasn't familiar with but apparently an important Port grape). , Watermelon and strawberry, a bit of basily herbs, needs more acidic zip. B-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Going to be good to see the back of 2004 Burgundy.

Interesting note on the Arnot-Roberts. Haven't had it yet myself but am taking one of those to the Dorks Rose tasting tonight. Hate to see that it needs more zip.

Are you still sitting on bottles of 2004? Waiting for anything in particular? Hope does spring eternal...

I have one or two stragglers. Not waiting on them, just not interested in bothering with them.

I also have a few bottles left (I bought very few 03s, so bought more widely in 2004). And while besides green meanies there have been disappointments like this one, I do actually still have hope for some that either I have liked or folks I trust have liked recently (CdLambrays, Bachelet Charmes, Meo CV). Vintage generalizations are just that, not final diagnosis.

Jenise, look forward to your notes on the AR. Not a bad rose at all, just felt not as racy as past vintages

I'll write up real notes later, but it stood out for elegance and complexity. 8th or 9th one out at a blind tasting where the bottles are passed one at a time, it was the first one that made everyone sit back and go "ooh, what's this!" Others would follow but it remained one of the best of the night.
