WTN: 2009 Dujac Chambolle

by Dale Williams » Fri Aug 29, 2025 9:35 am

Betsy was back after a long retreat, we had a lovely dinner on the patio. Leftover ceviche followed by duck breast, roast delicata, green beans, shishitos, and salad. Felt like a splurge and had heard 2009s were opening up, so opened the 2009 Domaine Dujac Chambolle-Musigny. Plenty of stemmy spice, rich ripe red cherries and raspberries, some easy tannins in background. Incense/sandalwood notes with some air. Lovely, exotic, balanced. Maybe more Dujac than Chambolle, but I’ll take it! A-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Lovely!

Dujac is definitely a splurge, though it was still “special occasion affordable” when the 2009s were released.

Yup, I recently saw an offer for the '22 Dujac Clos de la Roche. The '88 vintage of this wine, which I purchased in a mixed case in the first HDH auction ca. 2003-4, was the wine that convinced me that there was something to this Burgundy thing after all. The '22 was going for $800/bottle. Thanks, but no thanks.

Yup. 2013 was my list bite at the Dujac apple, and that was already a real splurge.

I did not care for pinot noir at all until I got exposed to Burgundy, a 12-wine tasting of the 1990 vintage of which my favorites were a Dujac and a Leroy. DRC was in that tasting too and I recall turning down the standard mixed case for $5000. Staggering prices to me at the time, and I didn't run in the right crowds to pursue Burgundy at the time, but I nonetheless recall the impact those made on me.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Speaking of producers that used to be special occasion affordable…I miss Leroy!

I miss Bachelet. When I was in NYC in '01 or '02, I picked up a '99 Bachelet Gevrey for mebbe $40 a bottle at Garnet. Not long thereafter Bachelet hit stratospheric heights, price-wise. Bye-bye, Bachelet.

Oh man. The 2005 and 2006 CdN Villages cost me $25/bottle for a case of each. Those were the days.
