2004 Morgante Nero d'Avola Sicilia Don Antonio - a dark wine with interesting nose combining dark fruit, spice, cocoa and hints of smokiness. Smooth but not especially long finish. Drink up.

Is this a candidate for the September Focus theme? I'm guessing you don't buy Nero d'Avola much anymore.

No Nero d'Avola in the September theme (Spain) but I do enjoy some of them. I have Feudo Maccari Saia in a couple of vintages and the 2015 COS Nero di Lupo (same grape). Not an outstanding grape but often a pleasant one. The name means 'black grape of Avola', a Sicilian town.

Didn't mean our lunch theme, but the WLDG forum theme. I know Nero isn't Spanish.

Btw, I picked up a Sicilian Rosso by Mary Taylor yesterday at my local food co-op. If it had been Nero Mascalese, I'd have tried it. But alas, it was Nero d'Avola. I've never met one I loved; most, I barely like.
