Friday night at Carnal:

NV Gosset Champagne Brut Grande Réserve Champagne Blend
Took this to a local restaurant. Thought I'd grabbed the rose; what a shock to pour this, which I forgot ever buying. Austere to the point of sour, even to someone like me who generally enjoys austerity and understands Gosset's style. Presuming it's asleep, I'll avoid opening another anytime soon (I have five more).

2020 Gramercy Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Lower East Columbia Valley
From the wine list at Carnal. Med-to-full bodied with the usual youthful Washington stuff--blackberry, hints of black coffee and graphite with very agreeable tannic structure. Drinks well immediately but has even more promise for the future.

Saturday night, took the following two wines to the Elk St. Tavern:

2016 Champagne Copinet Champagne BDB Leonard Extra Brut Chardonnay
Everything I raved about last December still applies, and even more: this time I shared a bottle with friends, one of whom has an expert champagne palate and he was blown away by the wine. He was shocked when I revealed that it's price (pre-tariff!) was only in the mid-60's.

2019 Domaine des Hâtes Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume L'Homme Mort Chardonnay
Last of four originally purchased and the best yet. As Chablis goes, it's not Dauvissat. It's more fruity than lean and didn't show any reductive qualities but it was a laid-back, minerally Chablis nonetheless and a perfect partner for a variety of dishes in a bistro setting.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

It's a small producer founded by Leonard and now run very capably by his daughter Marie under whose name it now runs. The wines are top drops but apparently mostly known on the west coast (I know you know Jim Dietz in California, he's a fan).
