WTN: Frankenstein

2024 Chaberton Estate Grown Reichensteiner Fraser Valley BC
The vines that grew this wine (and yes that's a legit grape, we looked it up) are only about 20 miles northeast of my home. Though the winery's description speaks of papaya and apricots, this bottle's owner and I found that perplexing. Obviously of German origins, it's very pale and all lean white flowers, fruit, and ample acidity with no tropicality whatsoever (we're thinking they might have written that for an earlier, warmer vintage and simply not updated the listing). We loved it.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Ah yes, another of those Müller-Thurgau crossings!

I opened this thread thinking I'd see a note about a wine from Franken. Oh, well.

While I can enjoy a 'Franken-wine', the Bocksbeutel they put them in are impossible to store in the usual rectangular wine cellar bins so I don't keep any of them. The shape is said to be derived from a term describing a goat's scrotum - they use a similar shaped bottle for several other wines from other areas - anyone that has sipped a Mateus rose will be familiar with that.

Some producers are backing away from the bocksbeutel.

More and more wineries in Franken are using the standard Burgundy bottle shape these days, perhaps realizing they are missing out on customers!

I have several Bocksbeutel in the cellar. Because they're fitted with screwcaps, I just store them standing upright on top of the racks.

FWIW, every time I see this thread title I hear the Edgar Winter song.
