We tasted last night at Pig+Fig:
1. Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Clos Hauserer (12.5%; MaD; KermitLynch) 1993: Med.dark gold color; fairly strong gout de petrol/Mosel valve oil/smokey light floral/R/mango quite complex very fragrant/perfumed beautiful nose; lightly tart very rich/lush fairly strong gout de petrol/valve oil some floral/R/ripe/mango/pineapple complex beautiful flavor; very long/lingering rich/lush finish that mimics flavor; an absolutely beautiful Z-H Riesling that will probably go another 10 yrs; good fill & solid cork. $23.85 (LB)/$nc (BSvSG)

1. I find that often young Z-H wines are a bit over the top...what you'd expect from the World's most genius winemaker that appeals to RP. Sometimes on the soft/alcoholic side. But many of them seem to age just fine and this was one who did.

I only ever bought a Zind-Humbrecht wine once. Over-the-top was putting it mildly. That wine did a belly-flop on the palate and was so heavy and overbearing that it was a chore to drink. I can't think why anyone would intentionally set out to make a wine like that.
