WTN: A tale of 2 Rieslings.

Wednesday bluefish, soba with vegetables,& broccoli
2019 Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Piesporter Goldtropfchen Riesling Grosses Gewachs
Lovely, peach and apple, grapefruit zest, a gingery note. Ripeness more than sweetness, racy (and lacy) acids, good finish. Should have bought more. B+/A-

I’m not the most organized, especially at my overflow cellar space (at office). I recently discovered a box of Riesling that I probably set aside a dozen years ago thinking drink soon. So lots of years (upright, in cellar that’s pretty dry in winter). Well, let’s see. With shrimp and sweet potatoes in a coconut milk/ginger/pepper marinade, the 2010 Donnhoff Oberhauser Leistenberg Kabinett. Cork is crumbly even with Durand, I filter into a decanter. Golden color, I’m a bit worried re oxidation, but it’s actually pretty fresh. Rich peach fruit, apple blossoms, a little greengage. With air a hint of petrol. It has survived its neglect and is pleasant to drink, though I’m a bit surprised by the acids which are modest. I think of 2010 as a high acid year and thought this would have more zip. Will drink others soon due to the corks. B

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Good to hear it's showing well. I don't own this wine but have been hesitant about 2019, although I guess it's a friendly vintage. And 'Should have bought more' is something we can all identify with!

I suspect more of a bad individual cork than the 2010 Leistenberg being headed for a cliff. The 2007 is still quite fresh.

I didn't think this bottle was heading for a cliff, but with a cork like that it was dodging a bullet, and I plan on drinking everything in the box that was upright for many years ASAP.
