Friday pork tenderloin, acorn squash, & spinach
2017 La Gerla Brunello di Montalcino
I enjoyed the ‘99 of this, was pleased to get this bottle as a gift. Black cherry, mocha, soft acid, moderate tannin, there’s nothing “wrong” here but it seems a bit soulless. Anonymous mid modern red wine. B-/C+
Saturday grilled a whole black sea bass as well as corn, served with Swiss chard and leftover coconut milk sweet potatoes
2023 Bruna Riviera 'Le Russeghine' Pigato (Ligure Di Ponente)
Peach and honeydew accented with anise and saline, ripe but with solid acids, nice long finish. B+
Sunday sole meuniere , hakurei turnip greens, acorn squash and salad
2005 Trimbach Cuvee Frederic Emile Riesling
Nice light gold color, less racy than most CFE, apple and citrus with a touch of gingery spice.
Lightest touch of petrol on finish, this was a lone forgotten bottle but if I had more I’d drink up - tasty but without the verve of a great vintage. B/B+
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
