1997 Domaine du Closel-Château des Vaults Savennières Les Coulees - this aged chenin blanc from the Loire has a medium amber colour now, and a sweet somewhat oxidized nose of pear and apple. I came across it lurking in the cellar and figured it must be oxidized but despite the colour, it was quite tasty and clean and showed almond hints near the end. A far better showing than I had feared.

Yes, it sounds like you had a pretty good outcome. Nice!

I hadn't heard of this bottling, but google tells me it was the name before they switched to La Jalousie, because of sniping with neighbor.

I also have some of their Cuvée Spéciale, and Clos du Papillon - will put them on the 'to taste' list.

I bought a bunch of their wines when they were available in BC and loved them, although oxidation was a risk in some bottles. But I have drank all mine up. They might make a good cheese wine (hint, hint!).

Are you hinting that I should put the vintage Port aside.......?
