WTN: 2 nice Chablis, + Barolo, Muscadet, OR, Montepulicano

Friday I gave out about 3,000 pieces of candy (they shut down streets in business district where my office is and kids trick or treat businesses)then headed home (where we get a few dozen kids). Dinner was spaghetti with Bolognese sauce and salad
2022 Tiberio Montepulciano d’Abruzzo
Ripe, structured, dark berry fruit with hay and earth, some coffee. Big but handles it well, good “hearty Italian red” to match the dish, but my Tiberio love is still mostly for the Trebbiano and Cerasuolo. B/B-

Saturday oysters, sole meuniere, broccoli, and braised daikon with shiitakes
2022 Pepiere Briords Muscadet
While this might be fleshy in the category of Briords, it’s quite racy in the category of white wine! Saline, snappy, elegant. Drinking very well. B++

Sunday we spent the day cheering my SIL as she did her first marathon, we met her at miles 7 (Brooklyn) and 18 & 22 (Harlem). Way to go Kath! Later we went to their house for a celebratory party, with pastas/raviolis, salads, and more
2004 Marcarini “La Serra” Barolo
Double decanted. I had jumped on train in Harlem so was home in time to give this about 90 minutes in decanter before returning to bottle before going over to party, could have doubled that. Midway through dinner it was showing quite well. Red and black cherries, tar, hint of mushroom. As it gets more air it gets more and more floral. Still some tannin but not intrusive, good acids, drink this one now and let your Brunates sleep. B+/A-

2020 Goodfellow Chardonnay (Willamette Valley)
There’s a bit of matchstick, but less than a couple years ago. Lemon, lemon zest, perfectly quaffable but really worth a few extra bucks to get the single vineyard expressions. B

Meatless Monday no wine with an Ottolenghi recipe for kale rice.

Tuesday shrimp scampi over angel hair, asparagus (I know, Peruvian, but not bad), and salad
2017 Domaine Laroche Les Blanchots La Reserve de L'Obedience Chablis Grand Cru
That’s a long name. Sometimes I find GC Chablis to be more white Burgundy than specifically Chablis, but this has plenty of oystershell and chalky minerality, classic.White fruits, a touch of anise. Bright, full, and drinking well. I think my only prior Laroche experience is with the basic St Martin, this is many steps above. A-/B+

Wednesday blackfish with pesto, sweet potato, broccolini, salad
2022 Tessut “Montee de Tonnerre” Chablis 1er
Another lovely Chablis, if a tad young. Green apple, lemon, and chalk, with some air herbs and apple blossoms. Long and racy. Testut is a new discovery to me, really enjoying. B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
