No wine Monday with a Japanese style shrimp curry.
Tuesday I supervised 4 buses of folks being delivered to a pre-Thanksgiving feast, then left as meal was served and picked up takeout. Lamb shawarma, mujadarra, Israeli salad, tabbouli, and baba ganoush.
2012 Texier Domaine de Pergaud St-Julien-en-St-AlbanVieille Serine Cotes du Rhone
Still a bit caught up in its structure, ripe red fruits, a touch of smoky bacon, a touch of barnyard funk. A B this time but I wouldn’t be surprised if I liked more once it loosens up in a few years.
Wednesday salmon, leftover mujadarra, and salad
2022 Vincent Zenith Pinot Noir
Tart cherry and raspberry, spicy, this has a lot of pizzazz.Fun, bright, spicy PN. B++
Thanksgiving we hosted the family gathering (because hard to get Betsy’s mom up many stairs to SIL’s house). No wine geeks, but I opened a few wines for varied tastes.
Chex mix, crudite with 2 dips (green feta and sour cream/onion), sage/prosciutto/gruyere pinwheels (one roll without ham for a visiting pesce-vegetarian))
NV Grongnet Blanc des Blancs Champagne
Granny Smith, tart pear, caraway seed, tangy. B
Heritage turkey (spatchcocked and rubbed with herb mayo, Gabrielle Hamilton's pickled shrimp, one pan oyster dressing, one pan “plain” dressing gravy, ginger green beans, winter squash with pistachio feta, apple/fennel salad, biscuits with good Norman butter
2011 Donnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett
On sweeter side of Kabinett (but that works with food) with decent acids for 2011, peach and citrus zest, a little incipient petrol. Very food friendly. B
1999 Ch. de Chorey (Germain) Vignes Franches Beaune 1er
Slightly roasted red plum fruit, smoky, a touch of ashtray, this is first 1999 I have found a bit tired. B-/C+
2005 Hudelot-Noellat Nuits St George
Young but open, black cherry and espresso, nice soil notes, fresh and long for a village wine. B+
For those that wanted, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, cranberry curd tart
Nice times.
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
