1990 Parusso Barolo - I've been keeping an eye (or tongue) on some of my older Italian holdings and came across this single bottle. The wine was delightful 10 years ago and it was time to see if it had endured. It pretty much had - now a pale Beaujolais level red but without the blue tints of some of them, and pale at the edges. The nose was still very decent and had a pleasant floral element (roses?) and it was light on palate with pleasant cherry fruit and a medium length smooth finish. Should it have been opened a few years ago? Yes, probably, but it wasn't senescent at this point and still offered some attractive notes. If kept in a warmer cellar it might well be past it by now. I also have a couple of bottles of their Barolo Mariondino from the same vintage that I have moved up in the 'to drink' line up. It will be interesting to see how it compares.
