WTN: Two New Bedrock Reds '24....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Fri Dec 05, 2025 1:47 pm

We tried these two new Bedrock Reds at our tasting this week at Laura's Pig+Fig:
1. Bedrock Zin OV Calif (14.5%; Vine age: > 80 yrs) 2024: Med.dark color; fairly strong vanilla/pencilly/Am.oak strong spicy/Zin/bit peppery some dusty/OV lovely nose; fairly smooth/drinkable very ripe Zin/spicy some dusty/OV strong vanilla/Am.oak flavor w/ modest bitey tannins; long spicy/Zin finish that follows flavor; quite a nice ripe/spicy Zin at a great price. $22.00
_______________
2. Bedrock Barbera ShakeRidgeRanch AmadorCnty (14.0%; Grown: Ann Kraemer) 2024: Med.dark color; strong classic Barbera/very spicy/Italian dried herbs light pencilly/oak lovely spicy Barbera nose; fairly tart/tangy lovely Barbera/spicy/Italian herbs fairly rich/lush light pencilly/oak bit complex flavor w/ modest bright tannns; very long spicy/Barbera finish that mimics flavor; speaks strongly of Babera but fairly rich/lush and not the teeth-chattering acidity of Piemonte Barbera. $39.00

1. Another great OV Zin from Bedrock and a real value. Should benefit from a few yrs in the btl. This is always one of the best Zin values out there. Ann Kraemer is a very highly regarded viticulturist in the NapaVlly. Some 10-12 yrs ago, she decided to plant a vnyd up in Amador Cnty. It is located at a much higher elevation to the SE of the ShenandoahVlly. She has a variety of varieties planted including Greco di Tufo and sells to a number of different winemakers. The Barbera from her vnyd is always one of my favorite Calif Barberas.

Ann started planting Shake Ridge back in 2003.
