TN: Marguet Champagne Grand Cru Shaman 18

Marguet Champagne Grand Cru Shaman 18 - I am not that familiar with this producer, but bought a few bottles awhile back and decided to open one for my anniversary. The blend is 75/25 pinot noir/chardonnay. This 2018 wine underwent tirage (when the still fermented wine gets bottled) , and sits developing until it underwent disgorgement in September 2021. It received no dosage of sugar. The wine was young and when opened showed a delicate nose of citrus with hints of green apple. and a floral element. Very clean flavours with zero oxidative or malic hints. Lengthy clean finish It took about an hour to show some interesting floral notes. Young, clean fresh Champagne - and quite likeable

Glad you enjoyed it. I thought that particular wine (and specific bottling) was OK, but my wife hated it!

Interesting! My wife liked it better than I did. I also have a couple of bottles of the Shaman 17 Rosé that I'll have to try soon.

Laura liked the Rosé more, but still found it more austere than she preferred.

She’s not a fan of the zero dosage trend.

I generally like Marguet, but he produces a huge assortment of wines (some from his vines, some from neighbors) . My general favorite is the Ambonnay rose, but have liked the Shaman rose (and yes, I believe the Shaman bottlings are indeed non-dosage),
The interesting thing about Benoit Marguet is he is super-passionate about farming organic/biodynamic, his young daughter had leukemia and he blames the heavy chemical use that was endemic in Champagne,
