- 2003 Daniel Bocquenet Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru (12/12/2025)
From my late father’s cellar, this was a trip down memory lane in more ways than one. Beyond the familial, it was a reminder of a different time in Burgundy, where things were a bit less polished, and a rustic/feral edge was OK. The hot vintage ensured that there was still plenty of ripe fruit, but underneath it the tannins had some rough edges, and there was a rusty, old iron note that might have made more sense in Cornas than Flagey-Echezeaux. Ultimately there was precision and grace, but as a dance upon a wooden stage in the town square.
