WTN: Big Crozes

by Jenise » Thu Dec 25, 2025 7:00 pm

On Christmas eve:

2015 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert
From 1.5L and my cellar, not opened in advance or decanted. Dark, youthful color. Warm-vintage ripeness trumps mild white pepper, green olive and balanced acidity, but it's good enough and was actually a perfect match for the savory/sweet elements in my host's Chicken Mirabella. Although I didn't do it, I'd recommend others decant to remove sediment.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Interesting pairing!

I will be very interested to see where Jaboulet goes from here with the change in winemaker.

Raven about big crows?

Have the Freys appointed a new winemaker yet?

I looked around and couldn’t find anything.

Thanks for the notes on this, Jenise. I have two bottles of it (750s) that I'll hang onto for as long as I can.

I used to look Thalabert (80s, early 90s) then was quite disappointed in some from first decade of this century. But recently had a 2016 I liked, and your 2015 sounds great. Glad back on form (now as David said we will see with new winemaker).
