Took these two cellar orphans to a party last night:

2017 Schieferkopf Par Michel Chapoutier Sylvaner Trocken-Sec Franken
Virtually unchanged since last bottle a few years ago. Fantastic nose, dry, spicy and complex. Lasting finish. Wish I'd kept it at home vs. sacrificing it to a non-discerning crowd.

2014 Tensley Syrah Santa Barbara County
Took ten years for the acidity to come into balance, but this showed very well last night. Still waiting on secondary nuances to show up--and no doubt, they will. Very enjoyable.

Was the Sylvaner in a normal bottle?

Yes, if you mean hock bottle vs. the short rotund Franken bottle.
