Tenuta di Fessina Erse Dd'OC: Etna WW (12.5%; 80% Carricante; http://www.TenutaDiFelsina.com; VineyardBrands/Birmingham/AL) Tenuta di Fessina/Castiglione di Sicilia 2023: Light gold color; quite fragrant floral/carnations/Carricante some mineral/stony/volcanic quite attractie nose; lightly tart fairly rich quite floral/carnations/Carricante fairly mineral/volcanic/stony some complex flavor; very long/lingering floral/carnations finish that mocks the flavor; an absolutely lovely expression of volcanic/Carricante. $28.00 (SFW&S)

Deauratus Chard GaliVnyd/SantaCruzMtns AVA (14.2%; 100 cs; DeauratusWine.com) Eric Baugher & Shun Ishikubo/GreenHillWineServices/Gilroy 2023: Med.gold color; strong melony/Chard/perfumed some earthy/mineray/chalky light toasty/Fr.oak/pencilly quite attractive Chard nose; fairly tart/tangy strong melony/Chard some chalky/mineral/almondy some toasty/Fr.oak/smokey some Burgundian/Jra complex flavor; very long/lingering mineral/chalky finish that tracks flavor; reminds some of MtEden Chards but not as rich/oaked; reminds more of Burgundy/Jura Chards w/ its minerality; quite a lovely/unique expression of SCM Chard; very balanced & interesting. $40.00

Sainte Magdaleine Cotes de Provence Rose Wine (13%; Grenache/Cinsault/Mourvedre/Syrah; KerrmitLynchWine/Berkeley) Famille Sack-Zafiropulo/Cassis 2023: Ned.dark rose/salmon color; rather fragrant strawberry/Grenache quite perfumed/pretty light earthy/stony quite pretty rose nose; lightly tart/earthy pretty/strawberry/Grenache slightly metallic/stony quite pretty flavor; med.long earthy/strawberry finish that mimics flavor; nothing profound (it's a rose, after all) but quite pretty/drinkable rose. $29.00 (KK)

OjaiVnyd Syrah SantaBarbaraCnty (13.5%) Helen & Adam Tolmach/Oakview 2019: Dark color w/ light bricking; very blackberry/Syrah quite peppery/cold-climate Syrah/spicy rather pencilly/toasty/Fr.oak levely classic Ojai Syrah quite attractive/complex nose w/ some complexity; lightly tart/tangy very strong peppery/c-c Syrah fairly blueberry/blackberry/Syrah quite rich strong toasty/Fr.oak lush lightly tannic some complex flavor w/ light tannins; very long/lingering strong c-c/pepperySyrah finish that mimics flavor; quite a lovely classic Ojai Syrah probably at its peak.

1. The Chard comes from two winemakers that put in time at Ridge Vnyds. Eric spent several yrs w/ Foley in the Napa Vlly then decided to return to his roots in the SCM. All of the Deauratus wines I've tried show very skilled winemaking behind them.
