WTN: Brunello, Sancerre, CA blend

by Dale Williams » Mon Jan 05, 2026 1:46 pm

Cold weekend in NY.
HMart marinated pork, haiga rice, kimchi, yu choy
2022 Extradimensional Yeah! Agradezco
Usually these labels are informative, this just says “red blend”. Crunchy redder fruits, spicy, bright and lively. B/B+

Oysters, striped bass (with yogurt, olives, and orange), cornbread stuffing, and spinach
2023 Yves Martin “Clos de Beaujeu” Sancerre
Citrus, lemongrass, and saline, bright and food friendly B+.

Sausage,gnocchi, and peas, green salad
2016 Cerbaia Brunello di Montalcino
Red cherry, plum, modest acids, some tannin, pleasant but not very long. Not much in the way of soil (or variety)signature, somewhat anonymous red wine. B-/C+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was the only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Hardy tends to send out detailed info on the wines in the regular shipments, but I seem to have ditched the one describing the Agradezco. IIRC it’s Zin-based.

Update - here's the blend:

40% Mourvèdre, 27% Zinfandel, 15% Pinot Noir, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Carignan, 5% Petite Sirah

Bizarre!

ok, a weird blend and I confess that if I had guessed I would have not been close! But kinda makes sense. I usually think of Mourvedre as black fruity, but the couple of bottles of Hardy's mourvedres have been redder, and majority Mourvedre/Zin makes sense in that context.
