WTN: Pavelot makes Pernand?

by Dale Williams » Wed Jan 07, 2026 2:46 pm

Meatless Monday (doenjang bean and chard stew) was wineless too.

Tuesday soy/5 spice pork tenderloin, Swiss chard, Hakurei turnips, and potatoes with ramp butter.
2005 Pavelot “Les Vergelesses” Pernand-Vergelesses 1er
Unlike others here (looking at you, Rahsaan) I’m generally a Pavelot fan but not sure I’ve ever had a PV from them before. This is still rather tight and structured, you can get a glimpse of the wine to come, but only a glimpse. With air one can coax out some black cherry fruit, and get a sense of silky texture, but this is a bit sullen and tannic. Some 2005s are opening up, not all. B- for drinking now, expect to be B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was the only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Ha! The Wasserman website doesn't list this cuvee, so maybe they no longer import it. But it's the only PV on the Pavelot website, so it still exists!

Yup, looking at my stock of Pavelot, it's all Savigny 1ers. Don't think I've ever seen their P-V.

I think the last great vintage made by Ecard.

Yes, Maurice Ecard retired after 2005, estate was sold, nothing produced under that name since has really appealed. The son (Michel) makes decent Savigny, but think the best vineyards went with the domaine sale.
