WTN: A Calif Chard & Pinot Noir....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Jan 29, 2026 1:26 pm

We tried these two wines at our Pig+Fig Winos tasting last night:
1. OjaiVnyd Chard SantaBarbaraCnty (14.0%) 2008: Med.dark gold color; rather nutty/very honeyed/almondy/mature Chard/ oatmeal slight earthy very toasty/pencilly/oak very complex mature Chard lovely nose; bit soft very strong toasty/pencilly/Fr.oak quite nutty/honeyed/almondy mature Chard flavor; very long/lingering nutty/honeyed finish that tracks flavor; a very good example of a fully mature Chard w/ little oxidation much like an aged WhiteBurg; some like an old Ridge SCM Chard; a lovely mature Calif Chard & probably not going to get any better.

2. Wrath PinotNoir McIntyreVnyd/SantaLuciaHighlands/MontereyCnty (14.4%; www.WrathWines.com) Soledad 2022: Med.light color; very fragrant light herbal strong black cherry/PN/spicy fragrant some pencilly/oak light earthy/SLH herbal very Burgundian/earthy quite complex flavor w/ light gentle tannins; very long/lingering balanced/smooth finish that mocks flavor; a beautiful Calif PN w/o the strong herbal/SLH character; a quite elegant/delicate very Burgundian expression of CA PN.

More fittersplat from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. THe Wrath was a wine TomTeirney brought to share. I'd heard of Wrath but had never tried any. I was pretty much impressed by this Pinot.

Hmmm! The Wrath pinot sounds wonderful. Notes like this help because I owned a Wrath chardonnay that was so godawful I didn't even bother to write a tasting note about it when I deleted it from inventory. I would never have touched the brand again without seeing something positive from someone I know.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
