We tasted these two old Aldo Conterno Barolos '82 at our tasting at Laura's Pig+Fig on Wednesday:
1. Poderi Aldo Conterno Dd'OCG: Barolo Bussia Soprana (KermitLynch/Albany) Monforte 1982: Med.light color w/ some browning; very fragrant pencilly strong dried rose petal light floral/lilacs/violets/mature Nebb classic mature Barolo slightly tired/dried out very complex nose; quite tart/tannic some floral/Nebb/dried rose petal fully mature Nebb some dusty/OV complex flavor w/ light gentle tannins; very long/lingering mature Barolo violets/dried rose petal slightly drying out finish that mocks flavor; showing a bit of drying out but a lovely example of afully mature Barolo; lovely wine but not going any further probable. $nc (BSvStacey)

More contebiddle from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Both of these came from the Blair Swartz cellar, donated by his daughter Stacey. They would have been purchased around '85 and kept in excellent storage conditions. Blair was a big fan of Barolo & Nebbiolos and still has a few more in his collection.
Both of these were clearly cast from the same mold. The Soprano was clearly a bit further along & showing a bit of drying out, but still a real pleasure to drink. The Cicala was just about as perfect example as you could ask for in a mature Barolo. A bit more Nebb fruit and just a bit more fresher in character.
Thank you, Stacey, for sharing these with us.
